South Side College and Career Catalyst Program

The South Side College and Career Catalyst program (C3) at the University of Chicago provides first generation, low-income, or underrepresented Chicago public high school students from the South Side with year-round college and career exploration activities and educational opportunities to prepare them for academic and career success. The program, led by the college and career readiness team at the University’s Office of Civic Engagement, carries on a proud legacy, building on college readiness programming the University of Chicago has offered to South Side Chicago public high school students for more than 50 years.

Space Explorers Program

The Space Explorers Program, led by the Office of Civic Engagement in partnership with the Kavli Institute for Cosmological Physics, gives Chicago public high school students the opportunity to engage with college-level math and science course work; interact with astronomers, physicists, University faculty, students, and labs; and develop skills for high school, college, and beyond.

Youth Internship Program

The University of Chicago Youth Internship Program is a paid summer employment opportunity for Chicago Public Schools students who live on the South Side. Launched in 2021, the UChicago Youth Internship Program (YIP) serves Chicago Public Schools (CPS) students over the course of two summers.

Civic Actor Studio

The Civic Actor Studio is a leadership retreat for established and emerging civic leaders that connects disparate civic actors — non-profit leaders, educators, funders, media, and UChicago faculty and staff — to examine the various leadership roles they play, engage in civic dialogue, and “practice” the embodiment of civic leadership so that they have increased self-efficacy in their work.
